Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga developed by BKS Iyengar is marked by dynamism and precision.Asanas (poses) are individualised to each person's body type and special physical needs. The self is explored through discovery and release of physical tension and psychological resistances. As practice continues one's ability to relax and to concentrate improves, creating mental alertness and inner harmony.

Characteristics of Iyengar Yoga include:

  • The holding and the repetition of poses to experience and integrate their effects.
  • The use of props such as mats, blocks, straps, ropes and chairs to access the beneficial effects of the postures.
  • The specific sequencing of postures.
  • All classes conclude with relaxation.
