Nrtta Sadhana. Rhythmic dance and its practice. A three day introductory workshop
with Emma Balnaves, open to all levels
of Shadow Yoga students.

17-19 February 2012
Friday to Sunday with a one session
option on Friday

Nrtta is that sadhana (practice) through which the sadhaka (aspirant) rediscovers the rhythmic life currents hidden in the body's folds and limbs by means of unimposed natural positioning.
Of the one hundred and eight karanas mentioned in the Natya Shastra, thirty-six are used for the purpose of self cultivation.
The sense behind the term Nata is the adaptation of slight bodily movements that are important for the beginner. Nrtta embraces both slight movements of the limbs and large bodily shapes (Karana), including Angahara (sequential arrangements with rhythmic transitions). These all come under the common umbrella – Nrtta. Therefore Nata Yoga is a part of Nrtta Sadhana.
Emma Balnaves is the director and teacher of Shadow Yoga and Nrtta Sadhana (formerly Nata Yoga).
